Live at Rethinking Materials: Mad Coffee's Compostable Pods Prove a Concept

Hi, everyone. I'm Luna, CEO of Genecis Bio and also Mad Coffee.

So today we're super excited to be at the Rethink Materials conference to talk about our new product launch.

This over here is Mad Coffee. It's the world's first liophyli or Lio extracted coffee powders and housed in our composable packaging.

And how it works is very simple.

You open up the lid, you then rip the tab open, requires no machine, put it directly into cold water.

So this is the world's first crystallized coffee powders and dissolves instantaneously in cold water.

Put it in and then you stir for roughly 3 seconds.

And you got yourself a really nice ice cold coffee, just like that, super simple.

And the beauty of our products is that we made it completely with composable packaging.

And this composable packaging is what we're also through this product using as a demonstration piece so that we can really help other brands like yourselves to make more products that are very similar.

So it's injection moldable and it forms a really nice and strong plastic like this.

All right, and the next steps for us is super exciting.

So with Mad Coffee, we're launching with a really big supermarket in the US in July as of this year.

We'll be in even more in the next coming months as well.

Today, we're actually launching direct to consumer via our online website called DrinkMad Coffee.com.

And this product is really a great proof of concept to demonstrate that a product like this made with a composable plastic can be used and loved by millions of Americans.

Previously, we launched a different brand called Mad Tea.

And in 6 short months, Mad Tea break broke over a million dollars in sales.

And for Mad Tea, we made these compostable espresso compatible ponds that are done with teas and other ingredients.

And that was the very first time that we use our biodegradable plastics in a product as such.

And then building upon the success of Mad Tea, we are now today launching Mad Coffee.

And a little bit more about Genecis Bioindustries.

So we were founded in 2017 as a biodegradable or biotechnology company.

We engineered bacteria to make PHA biodegradable plastics, which is the plastic that you're seeing go that went inside these pods.

We're backed by Amazon as well as Khosla Ventures.

And in the last couple of years, we've done some great work with some amazing brands and this year going forward, we'd love to be able to actually bring our technology and commercialized technology nowadays to a lot more brands worldwide, big and small.
