B&R Industrial Automation: Rail-mounted PCs - B&R X20 CPU

The B&R automation solutions have been earning a reputation for high performance for years. Powerful CPUs play an important role in this success. They are now available for the X20 System.

This content was written and submitted by the supplier. It has only been modified to comply with this publication’s space and style.

PC-based technology Based on the latest Intel Celeron processor technology, the X20 CPUs can utilize cycle times of 200 µs. This enables extremely fast processes to be automated with the highest level of precision. Machine quality and clock rates reach new heights. Thanks to ultra-low voltage design, the processors are able to maintain this high computing performance with very low power consumption. Large amounts of RAM grant the user unrestricted freedom with applications. It is complemented by a battery buffered nonvolatile SRAM for task specific data and remanent variables. In the case of a power outage, the variables that have been declared as being remanent are automatically copied from the fast RAM to the secure SRAM. The data content remains in tact until the controller is restarted, and the process can simply be resumed. After all, a slot for CompactFlash cards is integrated in the system for saving programs or application data, such as recipes. Comprehensive communication Today, state-of-the-art industrial communication is synonymous with Ethernet. That is why the X20 CPUs are equipped with two independent Fast Ethernet interfaces. One RJ45 connection is set up for TCP/IP communication, and the second provides optimal support for ETHERNET Powerlink, e.g. for axis and I/O connections in true real-time with extremely short cycle times. There are two additional ports available for USB devices, e.g. additional mass memory. An RS232 rounds off the extensive standard features of the X20 CPUs. Space-saving installation Designed for use in industrial environments. For machines and equipment in all industries, it is vital that the entire system functions properly in its environment. This also holds true for mounting rail installation. A complete unit consisting of an X20 CPU and X20 I/O modules can be mounted and removed as a unit from the mounting rail. Providing the highest performance, many standard interfaces and interface modules for expansions - yet the dimensions are unbelievably compact. The dimensions of the CPU match those of the X20 modules, which prevents unnecessary waste of space in the switching cabinet. Key features of the Powerful X20 CPU’s The new X20 CPU’s feature the following product highlights: • Intel Celeron 650/400 performance • On-board Ethernet, ETHERNET Powerlink and USB • Interfaces can be expanded with modules • Fan-free or exchangeable fan • Tool free fan exchange if fan is included in the CPU • Extremely compact with one or three interface slots The X20 CPU will be introduced to the US at the Pack Expo International in Chicago, IL on October 29 - November 2, 2006.
