PLS Proximity Laser Scanner from Sick Optic-Electronic (Eden Prairie, WI) is said to be the first programmable scanner for stationary and mobile, as well as safety and area scanning applications.

Self-contained noncontact control reliable proximity sensor monitors 180° of its surroundings out to a radius of 164'. As a stationary sensor, the PLS can guard hazardous areas, eliminating mechanical barriers and preventing inadvertent machine stops while protecting personnel. As a mobile sensor, the PLS replaces tactile safeguards such as bumpers on AGVs. PLS Utility Software for Windows is included.
