PACs explained

As technology providers continue to improve the functionality of the Programmable Logic controller, PLCs have begun to resemble PCs in terms of what they can do.

This gradual evolution has brought about the emergence of a new class of system that ARC Advisory Group, among others, is calling the Programmable Automation Controller, or PAC.

“PACs offer open industry standards, extended domain functionality, a common development platform, and advanced capabilities,” writes ARC’s Craig Resnick in a recent article published by ARC. “The PAC concept will play a major role in plant and factory automation, today and in the future.”
