Pharma co-packer goes live with system for better management, FDA compliance, iPad access

Uni-Pac installs Nulogy’s PackManager to help manage the plant, comply with FDA requirements and track production from labels to lot codes.

Pharmaceutical co-packer UniPac, based in Allegan, MI, went live with the PackManager software system from Nulogy Corp., Toronto, Canada. The Uni-Pac site was taken live in only seven days, Nulogy reports.

Uni-Pac operates a 100,000 square foot facility with temperature-control capabilities. The new software, specifically designed for contract packaging operations, improves on the company’s enterprise resource planning system, which was missing industry-specific forms, and required extensive spreadsheet-and-paper workarounds.

“With PackManager I can move quickly without anything slipping through the cracks,” said Scott Ellis, Uni-Pac’s General Manager in a June announcement, adding: “We have to meet strict FDA standards but can still handle tight deadlines and short lead-times.” Additionally, the company also has needs to track product lot codes, materials such as corrugate and case labels as well as pallet tags as customer orders move from receiving to packaging to finished-goods storage and shipment.

“Uni-Pac is a great example of a customer who really gets the full vision of PackManager,” added Nulogy CEO, Jason Tham. “Not only are they maximizing their value by using the full product including Quoting, Shop Floor Control, and the WMS. But they are also using our iPad-based mobile interface on their forklifts, and have plans to adopt our innovative QCloud Quality Control offering, and complete integration with their customer’s SAP system.”

The software helps lay the groundwork for company growth; also in June, the Allegan City Council approved Uni-Pac’s site plan for a 123,196 sq. ft. packaging and warehouse facility expansion.

Also in June, Nulogy was awarded the Toronto, Canada area York Technology Alliance Technology Leadership Award for Scale-Up Company of the year. Factors in the win include demonstrating excellence in innovation; consistently reaching new customers; increasing revenues; adding employees; encouraging community involvement and embracing sound business fundamentals. The company, founded in 2007, holds bragging-rights as the first company with a contract packaging-dedicated management system.
