Stretch film is thin but strong

Katan-Ex microlayer stretch film for pallet wrapping won a Gold Award for Apeldoorn Flexible Packaging.

Pw 1731 Apeldoorn

Katan-Ex microlayer stretch film for pallet wrapping won a Gold Award for Apeldoorn Flexible Packaging, a firm based in the Netherlands. This 27-layer film lets beverage companies, for example, use 30% less material per pallet because the film provides increased pallet stability at elevated temperatures.

According to Paul Kommerkamp, sales and marketing manager at AFP, Katan-Ex is a cast film made on a Black Clawson line. Also essential is a Cloeren feed block that takes molten material from five extruders and divides it into 27 layers. Total thickness, notes Kommerkamp, is in the range of 23 to 30 microns, depending on customer requirements. Precise identification of all the resins and additives involved is not available, says Kommerkamp. But he does say that the primary material is polyethylene.
