New standard could be the key to machine sales

The following message from Make2Pack goes out to packaging equipment builders and automation suppliers:“The member companies and organizations of Make2Pack strongly support the industry initiative to develop Part 5 of the ISA-88 series of standards, which promises to add measurable business value by integrating manufacturing, packaging and enterprise information systems through international standards instead of custom programming.

“We encourage suppliers to help us draft this important standard and join us in gaining valuable first mover advantage by adopting controls platforms that will implement Make2Pack principles today and provide a viable migration path to the new standard.

“Member companies intend to include the resulting ISA-88 (IEC 61512) standard, Batch Control Part 5: Modular Concepts for Automated Control Systems, in all our relevant equipment specifications. We will evaluate our suppliers’ abilities to deliver such systems based on the draft standard and may give preference to suppliers who do so.”
