Totaling 21 products, the 15-, 19.95-, and 25.4-oz bottles of shampoos and conditioners made their debut nationally last May. The bottles are blow-molded at Diamond’s St. Paul, MN, facility using a pearlescent yellow concentrate from Teknor Color Co. and HDPE resin from Equistar.
“Our goal was to create packaging that attracts today’s hair-care consumers,” says David Alexander, Diamond’s executive vice president of manufacturing and operations. “The yellow concentrate custom-formulated by Teknor makes the bottles stand out on retail shelves while satisfying consumer preferences for intriguing new colors with a touch of luxury.”
The bottles’ heat-transfer decoration uses labels reverse-printed gravure in up to eight colors by Smurfit-Stone’s DI-NA-CAL Label Group. Supplied on a release liner, the labels reflect a new graphics look created by RF Design Associates.
The caps were custom designed by Owens-Illinois Closure to accept a longer neck finish to give them a “sleeker look,” adds brand manager Alejandro Cabrera. Silver before, the caps’ new yellow or blue color further distinguishes the shampoo from the conditioner, points out associate brand manager Karen Fils. —RL
