Supplied by [b]Sonoco North America[n] in three different designs, the canisters measured 110x800 and contained 168 g of the candy-coated chocolate confections. The three different choices of twistable packaging included Santa Claus with Mrs. Claus and a reindeer; a ski slope with snowmobiles, snowboarders, kayakers as well as moose, orcas, and polar bears; and Smartie the Elf and friends. The design was implemented to appeal to children and the young at heart. The litho-printed convolute labels featured vibrant colors and crisp graphics. The canister was slim and sized for children's hands. A plastic plug lid in red, green, or blue complemented the label, and provided kids easy opening and resealing. A shrink collar provides tamper evidence. "It truly is a collectable; a toy to hang onto. The graphics are so much fun, we think parents may turn them away after the holidays and bring them out again next year," says Rob Yocom, Nestlé assistant brand manager.
A twist on holiday design
Nestlé Canada offered Smarties Holiday Twist canisters that had three moveable rings that allowed kids to move the colorful label graphics into multiple combinations.
