Consumers remove a 4.5-oz plastic bag that contains the original in-shell sunflower seeds, then spit the shells into a 61?2’’-tall high-density polyethylene cup that fits in car cup holders. It has a 33?4’’-dia linear low-density PE snap-on lid secured with a clear tamper-evident shrink band. Berry Plastics supplies the cup, which is dry-offset-printed in four colors, and the unprinted, resealable lid.
“David’s Travel Cup increases the fun and convenience of snacking, allowing more consumers to ‘spit responsibly’ and enjoy snacking anywhere, anytime,” says Sheila Erickson, marketing manager. “We know consumers snack on seeds while participating in other activities, and we are excited to deliver new products like the Travel Cup to increase convenience.”
The graphics created by Revcom Design leverage the well-known brand name since the cup is often displayed separately from other David products, according to ConAgra associate marketing manager Joe Wetli.
“The cup has generated a great deal of excitement at retail,” says Wetli, “especially with channels targeting younger consumers who are on the go and looking for innovative products.” Outlets include 7-Eleven and Target, where the bagged and cupped seeds sell from $1.39 to $1.69. —RL
