Alcan refocuses in North America

On April 30, Alcan Inc. inaugurated the “Alcan Packaging Technology Center,” which integrates the global company’s North American packaging resources into a single development center in Aurora, IL. It combines Alcan’s Packaging and Rolled Products technical groups to better serve its North American customers in both rigid and flexible applications, according to Armin Weinhold, president of Alcan Packaging.

Heinz Canada, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, introduced in late ’01 a plastic play on the #10 steel can. The custom six-layer plastic version is coextrusion blow-molded by Graham Packaging (www.grahampackaging.com) using polypropylene and an ethylene vinyl alcohol barrier layer.
