Twist & Pour for quarts, too

For 2003, Sherwin-Williams has begun to move several of its paint brands into new square quart high-density polyethylene containers that are similar to the gallon Twist & Pour jugs introduced last year.

The Cleveland, OH-based paint company is beginning the roll-out with its Dutch Boy Dirt Fighter line of latex paints.

Much like its introduction of the feature-packed gallon container last year, the company is not sharing packaging details.

“It’s been our policy on these packaging projects not to give out specifics,” says Adam J. Chafe, vice president of marketing. “Our primary concern is the protection of our market position as a leader, as well as [protection of] our intellectual property.”

The handled bottle has a large twist-off lid that makes it easy to open and reclose. The lid also speeds up the tinting process in stores. An indented base makes it easy for retailers to stack. According to Sherwin-Williams, consumers prefer the new plastic container by four to one over conventional steel paint cans.
