Plastic Suppliers, Inc. adds new slitting capabilities

Plastic Suppliers, Inc. (PSI), manufacturer and distributor of bio- and petrochemical-based films, has announced the installation and commissioning of three new high-speed Kampf slitters to support the company’s increasing demand in its converting and distribution business.

“These slitters are a key component of our growth strategy, allowing us to shorten lead times while converting better rolls of film at lower cost,” said PSI CEO George Thomas. “In Belgium, where PSI is Dow Chemical Company’s exclusive Northern European distributor of PROCITE window films, the new slitters will improve order turnarounds because they require 20 percent less direct labor than older slitters.”

Kampf slitters help increase productivity, quality, and flexibility and are capable of running a variety of substrates, winding large outside diameters, and slitting to widths as narrow as 2 in. Change-overs are simplified as a result of the machine’s automatic knife positioning and laser-guided core positioning functionality.

“These rapid change-over slitters will replace 10 of our older slitters while lowering manufacturing costs and driving down waste and scrap,” said Erich Emhuff, vice president of operations for PSI. Two of the slitters are located in PSI’s Columbus, OH, distribution center and the third is in the company’s facility in Ghent, Belgium.
