Aseptic packaging demand rising in Russia

Aseptic packaging demand in Russia is forecast to rise 9.1% annually to $1.2 billion in 2015.

Aseptic packaging demand in Russia is forecast to rise 9.1% annually to $1.2 billion in 2015, with the growing middle-class population fueling food, beverage, and consumer product spending and related aseptic packaging requirements. That’s according to the “World Aseptic Packaging” study from Freedonia.

The report says Russia’s relatively large urban population will also benefit aseptic packaging demand, as people living in large cities generally consume more packaged goods than their rural counterparts. In addition, the rising number of retail stores, grocery stores, and supermarkets will boost demand for aseptic packaging in an increasing number of food and beverage applications. The pharmaceutical market will remain by far the smallest as its government deals with multiple challenges.

Demand for aseptic packaging in Russia totaled $765 million in 2010, representing 47% of the market for Eastern Europe—the largest national market in the region by a wide margin.

The country’s aseptic packaging market experienced strong gains during the past decade, averaging 9.5% annual growth over the 2000-2010 period. In order to satisfy the rapidly growing local demand for packaging materials, Russia’s aseptic packaging industry has seen increased investment on the part of both foreign and domestic concerns. This trend is expected to continue in the coming years.
