Dairy settles labeling suit

Monsanto, the sole manufacturer of growth hormones used in milk, settled a suit with a Maine dairy over a dairy’s labeling of its milk. The corporation charged that the dairy’s claim that its farmers don’t use artificial growth hormones in their milk production is misleading and implies that there is something wrong with these hormones.

According to the settlement, Oakhurst Dairy can use labels stating “Our Farmers’ Pledge: No Artificial Growth Hormone Used.” (The word “used” was added to the label.) The label will also state that FDA has found no significant difference in milk from cows treated with growth hormone.
