Lenze: PackML library for ladder logic programming

Designed to give machine builders and operators the ability to focus on motion, diagnostics, data collection, video on HMI, and more, Lenze Americas’ library greatly simplifies implementation of PackML standards using ladder logic so customers can deliver safer and more predictable machines that collect data and can be operated and diagnosed without complex development software.

The library helps reduce the time and costs associated with engineering resources previously needed to convert and rewrite ladder code.  By simplifying code requirements for movement through the PackML mode/state matrix, the Lenze library allows copy-and-paste replication of the original code for use by customers in the programming environment of their choosing.

Residing in the Lenze modular programming environment, the PackML library completes the standard outlined in ISA-88 Part 5 (Make2Pack). The Lenze reference library includes: mode/state model in ladder programming where the OEM can simply add their code; special function blocks that automate bi-directional (mode-to-mode) transitions in the model; graphic user interface – GUI – to configure the function blocks for mode operation; GUI feedback on machine operation as defined by PackML; recipe and alarm structures as defined in PackML using standard components in the PAC.

Users import the reference library, which contains seven modes defining states used in PackML. Modes can be expanded or reduced, depending on user requirements. A machine is programmed for modal operation by creating the code in ladder logic—or any IEC61131 language. Final configurations are stored and fed directly to the function block that controls movements between mode programs.
