Cup reformer for canmaking

Sequa Can Machinery (East Rutherford, NJ) and Can Industry Products (Canton, OH), in a joint venture, introduce the CRM-500 Cup Reformer. The unit accommodates canmaker efforts to produce smaller dome base diameters and lighter steel gauges.

The Reformer gathers metal into the dome profile area of the cup prior to redraw. During redraw, this material is then folded into the profile area of the ironing punch, providing a wrinkle-free dome profile. Said to eliminate the need to change over the press stroke or purchase new die sets. When installed between cupping press and bodymakers, the companies say cupper speeds can even be increased.
