According to home improvement products company Home Depot, during the holiday season, as gifts are exchanged and online gifting continues to rise, 25% more trash is thrown away. Much of the trash contains expanded polystyrene foam packaging.

The team at Home Depot has found a way to replace EPS foam in its private-label holiday product assortment with recyclable material, including structural corrugated, molded pulp, and polyethylene.

With this step away from EPS foam, Home Depot has been able to eliminate 341,000 cu ft of EPS its packaging. Says Home Depot, that’s 355 Greyhound buses-worth of non-recyclable foam kept out of landfills and waterways.
