Staples renews environmental commitment

Mark Buckley, new vice president of environmental affairs for Staples, the office supply outlet, has renewed his company’s commitment to use more recycled content in its products.

This will be one of the points that will be covered when Buckley participates in a retailer panel discussion at the Take it Back! 2003 Conference, Feb. 24-26, in Alexandria, VA.

“We will work with our suppliers to continue to increase the amount of post-consumer content to expand our existing offering of over 1ꯠ items,” Buckley told Raymond Communications (College Park, MD), sponsor of the conference. “We are looking to increase those numbers, both in number of products offered, but also total post-consumer content,” he continued.

Staples will also work on post-consumer content in packaging, Buckley said, “first with Staples-brand private-label product where Staples has more direct control and input on product packaging specifications. The plan is to partner with other manufacturers to increase post-consumer content and reduce overall negative environmental impact associated with packaging.” For more details on the Take it Back!2003 Conference, call 301/345-4237. —AO
