One trend set to develop into 2021 and beyond includes incorporating eco-friendly and sustainable packaging, including the use of compostable, recycled or biodegradable materials. In addition to meeting environmental goals, sustainable packaging enhances a brand’s image as consumers become as concerned about the packaging of products as much as the product itself. As we move into 2021, we expect to see this trend continue and see companies incorporate more packaging made from plant-based materials.  Join us to watch this panel discussion—recorded live from last week’s digital Chicagoland Food & Beverage Network Leaders in Sustainability Conference—to explore how these “green” packaging innovations are pushing sustainability commitments and helping to shape the next generation of packaging for food and beverage.

Unique to this panel, we take a look at a growing subsection of the food & beverage market. Plant-based foods that very closely mimic traditional meat and dairy categories have seen a meteoric rise as of late. Consumers of this corner of food & Bev tend to be cut from the same cloth as those worried about sustainability and the environment, so these types of brands need their packaging to line up with what they say are more sustainable products.

Listen to what Kailey Donewald, Founder at Sacred Serve, a plant-based gelato producer, and Mike Loquercio, VP of Supply Chain at Greenleaf Foods, a plant-based meat producer, have to say about the latest trends and materials used in their packaging operation. Packaging World magazine’s Matt Reynolds leads the roughly 35-minute discussion. -PW
