Coveris installs two new presses at U.K. facilities

To expand its U.K. food operation, Coveris installs two new presses at its Gainsborough and Burnley sites.

Following the recent expansion of Coveris’ U.K. flexible plastics division with the acquisition of Burnley-based Learoyd Packaging, the company is now looking to continue to expand its U.K. food operation with further investment into two new high-specification presses at their Gainsborough and Burnley sites.

Adding to Coveris’ existing machine portfolio, both sites are due to benefit from the installation of new Windmöeller & Höelscher Miraflex eight-color presses. The Burnley press has been commissioned to include advanced color management specifications as well as in-line gravure capabilities. With operational activity set to commence in the latter part of the year at Gainsborough and commissioning due to take place at Burnley in early 2016, the investment creates an opportunity for Coveris to explore and grow into new markets sectors, including dairy, snacks, bakery, and confectionery.

Coveris’ U.K. President, Mark Lapping, says, “The investment of these two new presses will support our ongoing growth initiatives in the U.K. by improving and increasing our overall printing capabilities. This will allow us to better service the growing demand from our customers for high-quality, printed film-based packaging solutions.”

The news of the UK investment follows the recent announcement of Coveris’ global acquisition of both New Zealand based flexibles business Elldex, as well as agricultural plastics company Olefinas supporting dual expansion into Australasian and Latin American markets.
