CP initiatives among focus areas of conference at Packaging Summit

Effective strategies for contract packaging will be one focus of this year’s fourth annual Packaging Summit Expo and Conference, sponsored by the Institute of Packaging Professionals (www.iopp.org).

The trade show will be held May 13 to 15 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont, IL.

Conference hours will be from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 13 and 8 a.m. to noon May 14 and 15.

The theme of the May 15 conference is Outsource! Dwight Sevaldson will be one of the key speakers. Sevaldson, contract operations manager at General Mills, will offer "Five Steps In Managing Contract Packaging."

Jim Moseley, executive vice president at TricorBraun, will discuss "Seven Questions You Must Ask Before Sourcing Rigid Packaging." Dave Riggs, president, Chemir Analytical Services, will explore "Top Packaging Failures and How to Correct Them." A representative of the Strive Group will present "Build Wow Into Transit-Sturdy Display Pallets."

In addition, Jim George, Contract Packaging magazine editor-in-chief, will moderate a round-table discussion on strategies for using contract packaging effectively.

On May 13 and 14, a number of sessions will be of interest to decision-makers in contract packaging. One headliner will be Paul Lewellen, senior director supplier development, at Wal-Mart International Merchandising. Lewellen will detail Wal-Mart’s global innovation project’s focus, and review the status of Wal-Mart’s sustainability score card initiative in the U.S.

The consumer perspective on sustainability will shape another presentation. Scott Young, president, Perception Research Services, will discuss how consumers perceive the sustainability movement.
