Espoma Company: Premade bag opening/filling/top sealing/stretch bundling for plant food

The Espoma Company is reportedly the first in North America to use the U-Pack package from Bischof + Klein for its 4-, 5-, and 10-lb bags of plant food.

The premade bags are packaged on a new line at Espoma’s Millville, NJ, headquarters facility. Bags are opened and filled on a modified two-station machine that positions filled bags on a discharge conveyor that carries them through a band sealer for top sealing. The top-sealed bags are conveyed to a wrapping station where bags are initially grouped in either a 2x3 or 3x4 configuration, depending on bag size. Plows drive bags into an orbital stretch wrapping station that overwraps the bags in film, creating a bundle.
