Zebra Technologies: 'Smart label' printer

Operating on labels that have radio frequency identification (RFID) transponders embedded in them, Zebra’s (Vernon Hills, IL) R-140™ prints on the labels’ surface while simultaneously encoding the transponders.

The labels can measure up to 5.1”W and 30”L. The unit comes complete with more than 25 1-D and 2-D bar-code symbologies. Unlike with traditional bar-code labels, users can alter the data in an RFID transponder any time during the label’s life. This makes it possible to redirect a package or pallet on the fly.
