HBA highlights beauty in the Big Apple

HBA Global Expo, June 20 to 22 at New York’s Jacob Javits Convention Center, will inform and educate more than 12ꯠ cosmetics and personal care professionals with exhibits and conferences covering timely topics.

More than 400 exhibitors in 100ꯠ sq’ of exhibition space will make up the first HBA Global Expo of the new century, June 20 to 22. This eighth annual show, at Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York, is sponsored by Miller Freeman (New York, NY).

The exposition will be open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday. Along with perusing exhibits of packaging and components, 12ꯠ professionals in the health and beauty care field will have a chance to attend a three-track program of 31 different conferences. One of the three tracks focuses specifically on packaging, and HBA has assembled contemporary topics and expert speakers.

At HBA, Wednesday, June 21, is the day for packaging conferences. It begins at 9 a.m. with How to differentiate through packaging, moderated by Jay M. Bienstock, JB Associates. This 90-minute session will include three separate presentations: Rick Luftman, Kapak Corp., will talk about Innovations in flexible packaging; Christine Schaefer, CCL Label, will address How labeling can help the consumer make the right brand purchase; and Jim Peters of Brand Packaging will offer his Five critical steps to packaging that sells.

At 11:30, the conference Enticing with labeling and decorating will be led by Flexcon’s Jeff Robinson. Specific presentations during this session include Jeff Stahl of Seal-It explaining How shrink sleeves deliver graphics and tamper-evidency; Tom Sargent of Spear will present New horizons in label performance; and Tapecon’s Debby Warner will discuss Label enhancement through innovation.

At 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, another session explains how to achieve Prestige packaging within a budget. Moderated by Perry Peterman of PromoEdge Division of Menasha Corp., topics include Combining graphics and strength for a premium presentation from the team of Debra DesRoche and Ed Toschik of Inland Consumer Packaging; Ed Rise of Landor Associates will show Breakthrough branding: designing without fear; and CDE’s Bill Lush plans to show how to Create creative cartons.

Later on Wednesday, Jim Wagner of Cosmetic & Personal Care Packaging will lead a seminar discussing how and why innovative designs were accomplished for the category winners in the first International Package Design competition.

Along with packaging, other conferences will cover marketing and product development. In a session on Product sampling held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Eric Ludwig and Rick Huff of Telmark Packaging will present Latest unit-of-use packaging. At 3:30 p.m., the conference on Brand communications will feature presentations by three of New York’s leading packaging designers: Rob Wallace of Wallace Church, Marc Gobe of Desgrippes Gobe and Richard Gerstman of Interbrand.
