It's the first application in the household market for the recently introduced Tab Top, and it's used for both the bleach and non-bleach product formulations. With 20-oz bottles of the same product, DowBrands uses a flip-top closure for the non-bleach formulation but a twist-open for the bleach product to minimize consumer contact with the product. The new closure, molded of polypropylene in a 33/400 neck finish with a .187" orifice, combines the best of both styles: the clean reclosure of a flip-top and the directional pour of a twist-open, with no dripping or clogging. Directional pour is important, since "there's a safety issue with the bleach," says Mary Elsner, brand manager for Indianapolis, IN-based DowBrands. The new closure is also "much less" expensive, says Elsner, than either of the two foreign-supplied closures used on the 20-oz size. A decision on whether to extend the closure to the 20-oz size is expected later in the year, after the marketer monitors consumer feedback.
