Mace’s products are widely distributed through sporting goods and mass market retailers, wholesale distributors, and e-commerce.
Since the 1990s, in response to retailer demand for tamper-resistant packaging, the company has packaged its pepper spray in PVC clamshells, including detailed instructions in folded paper insert form. The aluminum aerosol canisters are supplied by Alucon, the aerosol valves are from Precision Global, and filling equipment is from Terco, Inc.
In an effort to become a more environmentally responsible company, Mace has sought out a way to minimize the environmental impact of its packaging. With that goal in mind, in early 2016, the company is transitioning from PVC clamshells with folded instructional paper inserts to molded-dome blister packs that require far less PVC and is eliminating the folded paper inserts. Now, in place of additional inserts, product usage instructions will be printed on self-sealing backboard blister cards. Both the self-sealing backboard cards and blister domes are supplied by Clear Concept Innovations, Inc.
Beyond the major objective of improving the environmental friendliness of the packaging, Mace also is reaping other rewards. As Mace Security International’s Creative Manager Jessica Adanich notes, “We love the reduced environmental impact and enhanced visual shelf appeal of the new packaging. Our packaging operation efficiencies also will improve as the company expects to invest in multiple packaging stations and will implement new, more efficient processes.”
