Pack Air Inc. has newly designed a custom multi-lane Stainless Steel Water Bath conveyor to detect leaks for pressurized consumer aerosol cans.

The single-lane infeed of filled and pressurized aerosol paint cans uses backpressure, a static dead plate, and a static guide rail wedge to divert the cans into two lanes. Another short conveyor, with a pair of dead plates and wedges, split the flow of cans again to make four lanes. The four lanes of steel cans are pushed across the dead plate with backpressure and onto the stainless steel conveyor chain where they are conveyed towards the water's edge.

The stainless steel chain can’t be magnetized itself, but the magnets encased in the stainless steel wear strips attract the steel cans and hold them down to the stainless steel conveyor chain. Then, the stainless steel chain declines into the bottom of the Water Bath conveyor at a slow rate until the cans are completely submerged. The hot water in the tank increases pressure inside the can spewing out bubbles indicating if the pressurized seal is broken. If the pressure is too high, the cans may deform or burst.  As the product keeps moving into the tank filled with water, the level of the water rises to displace the extra volume added to the tank.  Any water that gets too close to the top will be drained into an overflow tube that’s placed in the middle so that water will not leak over the edge.

The magnetized wear strip and stainless steel chain then elevates the product to the outfeed that meets with another transfer dead plate.  Back pressure helps move the product over the dead plate and onto the next process. The water levels return back to normal once all the product is clear from the Water Bath conveyor.
