New management brings new opportunities

The new partnership with PMMI for management support of the Contract Packaging Association is going well, with the group already realizing several member benefits.

Tim Koers, CPA President

It has been an exciting three months since my last letter. The new partnership with PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, for management support is going well, and we have already realized several member benefits. We have been able to explore additional educational offerings, discuss industry reports that will help our membership prepare for the future, and dive into new networking opportunities. All of this while realizing great efficiencies in day-to-day operations. We are well on our way to creating the strategic partnership I detailed in my last installment.

These are not the only plans underway. You are now receiving the bi-monthly CPA Inside Look newsletter. This effort reduces the e-mail traffic from CPA and yet serves to keep you informed as to what is occurring within our association. You should also have received a mailing to confirm you have the e-mail address from CPA in your whitelist of any spam filters. The card also details a myriad of benefits your membership offers and serves as a reminder that if you have not taken advantage of them, please do so.

I am also pleased to introduce to you our new CPA primary contact, Paige Jarvi. Paige resides out of the office in Reston, VA. Her phone number is 571/287-6818; her e-mail is [email protected]. If you have any questions regarding your CPA membership, please do not hesitate to reach out to her as she is a high-energy resource and is always ready to help.

We have many activities in the planning stages or underway. Here are just a few:

  • State of the Industry Report (SOIR): We launched this report formally at the end of March. We added more information for a subsequent revision that was introduced at PACK EXPO International 2018. The new version has expanded the data presented as well as introduced some new features. We have received great coverage in various media outlets, and there is much interest in the report. As a member, if you haven’t already, remember to download your complimentary Executive Summary.
  • PACK EXPO International 2018: Our Resource Center was again a very popular offering. Thank you to the booth and Meet and Greet volunteers and sponsors for making this one of the busiest and well-attended events of our year.
  • Annual Meeting 2019: The meeting is set for Feb. 20-24, 2019, at the Westin Tampa Waterside, 725 S. Harbour Island Blvd., Tampa, FL. Please mark it on your calendar! We ask that you consider who else on your team can participate, as they are sure to return to your organization with renewed energy and ideas for your company. In addition, they will now possess a network of peers and support organizations to help implement change. It will be a great event.
  • Speaking Opportunities: We have speaking opportunities at the Global Pouch West Conference, Nov. 13-15, 2018, at the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at the Buttes, Tempe, AZ. Carl Melville, COO of The Melville Group, will present his views on the state of the contract manufacturing/contract packaging industry. This forum attracts a loyal and growing attendance each year, drawing more than 600 attendees in 2017.

I want to personally thank you all for your continued support of the CPA and for challenging your Board of Directors to change our thinking to better the CPA day after day!
