Bio-plastics grades

Metabolix says that Telles™, its joint venture with Archer Daniels Midland, has 3 new grades of its Mirel™ family of bio-based, sustainable and biodegradable, semicrystalline natural plastics.

New are Mirel P1001 and P1002 for injection molding applications and P2001 for paper coating. For injection molding, P1001 can replace styrenics, while P1002 replaces polyolefins such as PP. An alternative to petroleum-based paper coatings, P2001 enables the production of fully biodegradable paper coated cups and food packaging.
