New labeling for beer, wine and liquor...

The Treasury Department (which regulates alcoholic-beverage labeling) may soon require companies to put alcoholic content, serving sizes, and nutritional information on all alcoholic drink packaging.

Labels on all alcoholic beverages would include a statement of the drink's percentage of alcohol by volume. The labels would also include calorie count, carbohydrates, fat and protein per serving. At least one alcohol industry executive is happy with the decision to regulate the labeling, saying that "overwhelmingly, people want this kind of information on the package." The decision, which could come in October, would require new labels three years after the final rule is published.
