"There's a social dimension as well as an environmental one" in the drive for packaging sustainability, according to the United Kingdom's Co-op environmental manager.

If unemployment rises significantly in South Africa as a result of bulk wine importing to the United Kingdom, that's a social issue that may need to take precedence over the environmental issue. The Co-op urged packagers to get this and other sustainability issues right at a conference held this month in England.
