Digital printing of corrugated in China

Digital printing in the corrugated sector continues to pick up steam, including in China.

Founded in 2009, China’s Hanglory is a relative newcomer to the digital press manufacturing space. The firm launched single-pass sheet-fed digital presses for corrugated in 2016 and a year later established Hanglory USA, Inc., in Atlanta to offer industrial digital printing solutions in the Americas. Its presses are equipped with piezo ink-jet print heads from Kyocera and use water-based inks.

Installations of Hanglory presses are more plentiful in Asia than elsewhere, says Marketing Manager John Ingraham, but there are two presses running in the U.S. One obviously enthusiastic user of Hanglory technology is Taizhou Forest Printing & Packing Co., Ltd. This Chinese supplier of paper packaging has plenty of conventional offset and flexo presses, most of them from leading European suppliers. It started commercial production on a Hanglory Glory 1604 digital press in September of 2017 and now also operates three Glory 2504 digital presses.

Both presses have the same rated speed of 492 ft/min. The 1604 is 1.6 m and the 2504 is 2.5 m wide. The 1604 is primarily for coated board, though it will also handle uncoated. The 2504 is primarily for uncoated board, plus it has an integrated slotter and box hole die cutter (to cut handles into the case).

“We purchased these digital presses because the local marketplace demand for short-run, customized packaging is strong and getting stronger,” says Lin Qiqun, Owner of Forest Printing & Packaging.“The advantages of digital printing—immediate delivery, print-on-demand, low or no minimum order requirements—meet the needs of these businesses perfectly.”
