Clarity, gloss help India cosmetics brand bloom

The cosmetics industry is growing rapidly in India, and cosmetics companies in that country are beginning to grasp the importance that visual clarity and gloss play in package design.

One brand that “gets it” is New Delhi-based Vimal Plastics. It has introduced its own facial cleanser brand, Rose Petals by Lotus Herbals, a rose-scented, pink-tinted liquid in high-gloss, glass-like bottles holding 120 mL of product.

Vimal Plastics selected The Glass Polymer (PETG) from Eastman Chemical Co. Vimal Kumar, managing director of Vimal Plastics, says the resin provides a 92% or greater light-transmission rate, giving the tinted product added sparkle through the clear bottle on the store shelf.

The container carries other benefits. The resin in the container retains the product aroma for an extended period of time, and the container weight is about one-half the weight of an equivalent volume of glass, potentially reducing shipping costs.

The clear-film label, created by Lotus Herbal’s in-house design team, is cold-glued onto the bottle, providing a “no-label” appearance. Reliance Industries Ltd. created the polyolefin closure, which was injection-molded by Vimal Plastics.
