Early last year, market leader KiMs Norge AS introduced a flexible stand-up ‘FlexCan’ from Amcor Flexibles (www.amcor.com) that’s building sales for the company’s nuts, potato chips, and specialty snacks. The package won a Silver Award from the DuPont judges.
“We had to put our effort into packaging that would differentiate us from our competitors,” explains Stein Ronne, R&D and QA manager for KiMs Norge, an Oslo-based company within the Orkla Group.
After attending a packaging conference in Gothenburg, Sweden, Ronne says, “we learned of the resealable standing bag from Amcor.” In January, 2005, KiMs Norge introduced 350-g Polly Peanotter and 300-g Polly Turmiks nuts into the FlexCan.
Amcor’s FlexCan was developed by Amcor Flexibles in partnership with German packaging machine manufacturer Rovema (www.cerutti.it) press.
“The launch of Turmiks was only meant for a limited edition, but it was such a success that our customers asked for it to be a permanent product. Norwegians are pretty much a traveling people and they take the product on their regular Sunday trip to the woods, the sea, or to the mountains,” says Ronne.
