Greiner Packaging and Husqvarna have joined forces to meet the challenge of making successful products even better. Greiner Packaging has put its expertise to the test in implementing the new Husqvarna Combi can design. The result is an innovative oil/gasoline container that yields numerous benefits both in production and in use.

Husqvarna is one of the most successful providers of machinery and tools in the world and is a market leader in the forestry and landscaping equipment sector. It serves the construction and stone industries as well as demanding end users through its wide product array. When it comes to complex plastic products, Husqvarna has learned to rely on its collaboration with Greiner Packaging.

The new Husqvarna Combi can holds oil in one container and gasoline in another, and was specially designed for chain saw users who, thanks to these refueling tanks, can now keep working without major interruptions.

“The new Combi can is a very complex product. Husqvarna came up with the design, and our skill was needed in the implementation,” says Günter Ausserwöger, Head of Division Kavo. “After intensive development work we have succeeded in reducing the product costs and production effort, while at the same time making using the container as practical as possible.”

The redesigned Combi can offers numerous benefits associated both with its manufacture and with its use. Until now, the oil and gasoline containers had to be produced separately and then assembled. Intensive collaboration between Husqvarna and Greiner Packaging has led to the design of a significantly more efficient production process. An extrusion blow molded container consisting of two chambers can now be manufactured in one production step and with only one tool.

The time-consuming assembly step is gone, helping to save costs. And users also benefit from the new container. A space was added between the two containers, providing room for tools and spare parts and, thus, facilitating uninterrupted work. Transparent windows in both chambers also allow the user to check the oil and gasoline level at any time.

“It’s precisely for a product like this one that high safety and quality standards are indispensable, and Husqvarna demands them,” states Ausserwöger. “For that reason, we conduct drop tests, pressure tests, and airtightness tests in order to ensure that the Husqvarna Combi package can be used with no problems.”

The new Husqvarna Combi can design has been available since February and is a prime example of how complex projects can be mastered through the application of Greiner Packaging's wide array of innovative solutions. The Combi can is tested and approved in accordance with UN regulations.
