Reclosable label puts Andy Capp's into party size

Whether the motivation was to sell through club stores or just to offer a larger pack, GoodMark Foods, Raleigh, NC, has begun to use reclosable labels in a big way.

It started last year when the company added a labeler from Elmark Packaging (West Chester, PA) to apply cohesive labels, also from Elmark, to the back of 8-oz bags of Andy Capp's Salsa Fries. The snacks are packed at the plant in Folcroft, PA. "Our packaging engineers investigated other reseal options," reports Jeff Slater, director of marketing. "But this solution was recommended as the most efficient and cost-effective way to solve our problem." Even though Slater says consumer reaction hasn't yet been measured, he adds that the same reclosing feature is being introduced on GoodMark's Slim Jim® and Pemmican® brand lines of meat snacks in flexible packaging. At the same time, new sizes and new graphics are being used for the meat snack packages as well.
