PMMI spreading the word about packaging

While at Ipack-Ima this week I had the pleasure of bumping into PMMI Chairman Nick Wilson, who also is the president of Morrison Container Handling Solutions.

An influential backer of the highly regarded Mechatronics Program at Purdue Calumet, Wilson wanted to let me know that PMMI is looking into ways of also promoting at the high school level an awareness of packaging as a career possibility. “We’ve been active at the college level, but we see now that there is an important opportunity at the high school level, too,” Wilson explained. “PMMI member companies in Minneapolis and Tampa have been leading the way, and we’ve done some of it in the Chicago area, too. But we think we can broaden this initiative considerably.”

The idea is to get some face time not so much with high school students themselves but rather with the counselors and advisors who are so influential in laying out career opportunities to the high school students of the country. As Wilson put it to me as we parted yesterday, “This is important work.”
