Early in his career, while serving on the USS Chicago in the U.S. Navy, Orloski helped launch “The Skyscraper” magazine on board the ship and served as editor of that publication. By 1977 he was a packaging trade publication field editor, reporting from countless packaging operations worldwide and expanding knowledge through his case history feature stories. In 2003, he was inducted into the PMMI Packaging Hall of Fame. Election into the Packaging Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed upon packaging professionals by their peers.
Over the years, Orloski showed his readers how packaging contributes greatly to a society’s well-being by extending shelf life, minimizing energy consumption, preserving nutrition content, and assuring tamper evidence. His contributions to expanding packaging knowledge included reporting on career fairs at packaging schools, bringing machinery engineering education to advisory committee meetings, and participating in seminars and competitions.
A demanding editor and always a stickler for details, Orloski was highly regarded in the packaging community. His influence continues to shape every issue of Packaging World that leaves the press.
