The 30-page study, “Trends and Drivers Impacting the Pet Food Industry,” says sales of dog and cat food will continue to grow 5 percent each year around the world, but consumers are driving change in recipes, packaging formats, and ethical sourcing.
As demand increases for both wet and dry food, as well as treats and snacks, plant floor space will become tight. Processing & packaging equipment designs will become more compact while maintaining or increasing operating speeds, maximizing this limited space.
Primary demands by CPGs are focused around the ease of adapting equipment to address varying types of products, packaging types, & volumes both for e-commerce and speed-to-market.
OEMs will need to offer modular designs, particularly for primary packaging equipment, so production can have the convenience and versatility without a decrease in operating speed, and be able to scale production without the need to buy an entire new and larger system of equipment.

Efficient maintenance & sanitation are essential for CPGs to reduce down time. Equipment will need to be self-contained as a way to minimize the number of components that need maintenance.
Equipment designs will require minimal, if any, tools to undergo maintenance as a precaution to avoid introducing contaminants into the food. High quality materials need to be used in the construction of equipment as a way to improve the ease with which the surfaces can be sanitized.
