Contract packaging consolidation: UAS acquires APN Labs

UAS Laboratories expands its offerings by providing a complete range of probiotics and other specialty nutritional supplements.

The contract packaging industry is continuing to undergo dynamic changes, often to extend a broader breadth of services that more customers are demanding, rather than being specialists. The industry is experiencing a new round of consolidation, and in the far corners of the industry, condition-specific applications are driving merger and acquisition activity.

Such is the case in the Upper Midwest this month, with UAS Laboratories, Eden Prairie, MN, announcing its acquisition of APN Labs Inc., a contract manufacturer and packager in Wausau, UAS Laboratories is a contract manufacturer of nutraceuticals, and it saw APN Labs as an attractive purchase because it makes its own condition-specific probiotic blends, as well as other ingredients.

Beyond that, APN Labs’ facility meets FDA and state health department requirements, and also current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) guidelines and kosher certifications requirements.

APN Labs offers complete manufacturing packaging services for the natural food supplement industry, such as blister packaging for capsules and tablets. Its complete packaging facility includes both semi-automatic and high-speed automatic lines to fill capsules, tablets, and powders into containers.
