Winona Foods expands for the second time in three years

With the recent completion of a $3 million expansion of its facility in Green Bay, WI, Winona Foods Inc. (www.winonafoods.com), says it is able to better serve its food service, industrial, and retail customers. Winona Foods offers contract packaging and private-label packaging services for natural cheeses as well as dips, spreads—including those marketed under the Painted Cow brand—and sauces.

The expansion comes on the heels of an $8 million facility completed in 2004. With the most recent addition, Winona Foods now encompasses 115,000 sq ft of production, warehouse, and research and development space.

The recent expansion adds 40,000 sq ft to the facility. About 35,000 sq ft is devoted to warehousing and 5,000 sq ft is earmarked for production of portion-control products. In addition, Winona has added a packaging line to increase capacity for aerosol products.

To support Winona’s branded line of dips, spreads, and sauces, as well as custom signature flavors, 3,000 sq ft of renovated space has been assigned to research and development.

In addition to this expansion, Winona has also opened an aging, cutting, and packaging operation exclusively for Montforte blue and Gorgonzola cheese. The facility allows Winona to better serve food service and industrial channels with Montforte world champion Gorgonzola and blue cheese. The new facility also now enables the company to offer Montforte cheese to retailers.
