Single-serve, long shelf-life premium egg

Pw 44972 1 Egg1

Individually packaged in PET clamshells, hard-boiled eggs from Mulacane Co., Japan, provide on-the-go consumers with a quick protein boost the old-fashioned way in a new-fashioned package. The egg can be eaten as-is or added to a lunchtime salad. Consumers will have to shell out 76¥/USD $0.97 for each one of the packaged eggs, which were seen on-shelf in a convenience store in Nagoya, Japan.

Depending on the variety, the egg appears to have a shelf life of nine to 14 days, based on scant understandable language at the company Web site. However, the brand owner’s site did reveal that the package had a recent makeover in response to consumer requests to make it more sustainable, via a PET thermoform and a polypropylene label to replace the previous paper label. This presumably simplifies recycling of the package in an all-polymer form.
