Chinese packaging is in the can...

By 2011, demand for metal cans in China is expected to rise 6.2%. Steel and bi-metal cans will represent the largest segment, with aluminum cans to fall behind.

Steel cans will benefit from their high strength-to-weight ratio, long shelf life, tamper resistance, and recyclability, but will face competition from plastic and glass in food markets. Aluminum cans will benefit from increases in beverage production, but gains will slow as the carbonated soft drink market softens. Gains are the result of population and economic growth.
