Package recycling at 57% in New Zealand...

The New Zealand Packaging Council is dismayed that its efforts to recycle are not being recognized by its government's Select Committee.

A new bill motivating manufacturers to redesign their products and packaging to reduce waste ignores the packaging industry's achievements thus far. Last year alone, 33,000 tons of CO2 was saved—the equivalent of taking 8,000 cars off the road. Recycling rates in New Zealand are similar to rates in much larger and more regulated markets in the United Kingdom, Australia and Europe, according to the Packaging Council.
