National Adhesives: Hot melt adhesive

A low-temperature hot melt adhesive from National Starch and Chemical (Bridgewater, NJ) resists high heat better than earlier reduced-temperature hot melt adhesives, company says.

Adhesive provides functional bonds in less than 1 sec and full fiber tear in 2 to 3 sec. Fiber tear indicates that the linerboard or corrugated material will fail before the adhesive fails in a strength test. Product accommodates hot-filled applications such as tray making, case sealing, or carton sealing where fast set and high-stress situations may be encountered. Called Cool-Lok 34-274A, adhesive is said to exhibit fair cold resistance.
