RFID tag locator software

Introduced in summer 2005, CAPE Systems’ RFID Tag Locator software can replace costly and time-consuming trial-and-error testing to optimize tag placement and significantly improve case and pallet reading.

Loaded on the same computer that operates the antenna-reader, the software produces 3-D renderings of the read zone, a clear-to-see green for readable, and red indicating nonreadable.

The software covers both case-level and pallet-level testing for determining the best positioning and orientation of tags.

RFID Tag Locator can be used in two modes:

* A quick and approximate sweep method; or

* A rigorous hot spot analysis.

A 1”x1”x1” scale zoom feature of the software permits a detailed analysis of the tag’s performance in the RF field.

Through the software, users can simulate adjusting the orientation of the tag, tag location, distance from the reader, and other variables. It works for Gen 1 Class 0, Class 1, and upcoming Gen 2 tags.

“It works with about any reader-antenna combination and for any tag,” says CAPE Systems’ vice president of worldwide sales Brad Leonard. He says the software, which is priced under $3ꯠ, can replace contracted RFID tag testing costing thousands of dollars per item, plus saving the time involved in those tests.

Leonard tells RFID Antenna that interest has been “great. We’re receiving inquiries from all over the world, from the Far East and Europe. Companies have ranged from packaged goods manufacturers in the personal care and pharmaceutical industries to systems integrators.”

CAPE will be releasing an add-on version at Pack Expo Las Vegas later this month that will interface seamlessly for those thousands of users that already have CAPE’s palletizing software. RFID Tag Locator is marketed under a worldwide licensing agreement with Integral RFID, Inc.
