In the field of secondary packaging, IWK presents its latest‑generation horizontal cartoning platform. The CH platform combines precise carton positioning with high flexibility and outstanding energy efficiency. An innovative servo drive recuperation system significantly reduces energy consumption by up to 21%. The linear process layout allows for fast, reproducible, tool‑free format changes. Thanks to its modular design, the platform is highly future‑proof and suitable for a wide range of applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and non‑food.

All systems are based on a modular platform architecture with uniform control, intuitive HMI and GMP-compliant design. The CH4 achieves a maximum output of 120 cartons per minute in continuous mode. Tool-free format changes, servo drives and short set-up times ensure maximum system availability.

The process begins with a magazine that holds pre-cut, flat carton blanks. These blanks are automatically picked, opened, and formed into a rectangular shape using a series of mechanical arms and guides. The erected cartons are then indexed horizontally along a conveyor system, where they are precisely positioned for product loading.

Products, whether individual items or collated groups - are introduced into the cartons from the side, either manually or via automated infeed systems such as conveyors, robotic pick-and-place units, or product collators. This horizontal loading orientation is particularly advantageous for delicate, irregular, or pre-packaged items, ensuring gentle handling and consistent placement.

Once filled, the cartons proceed to the closing section, where flaps are folded and sealed using methods such as tuck-in, glue application, or locking mechanisms, depending on the carton design and product requirements. Integrated sensors and control systems continuously monitor each stage of the operation, ensuring accuracy, quality control, and minimal downtime.
