Biodegradable polyester

DuPont Films (Wilmington, DE) has introduced a hydro/biodegradable polyester that is said to decompose without harm to the soil or environment. A modified PET polymer, Biomax can be made into fibers, films or resins, and has a melting point of around 200°C.

Applications can include bags that cover ripening fruit, and blister packs. Biomax can also be used in coated paper products and metallized films for food packaging, and is suitable for thermoformed packaging, blown bottles and injection-molded bottles.
