Reducing labeling errors

In an effort to reduce errors on food labels, the Food Safety and Inspection Service's Food Labeling Division (FLD) said all label-approval applications will be seen by two FLD reviewers instead of one.

The agency said reviewers will not be more strict but that the dual review may result in more errors detected. Labeling errors are on the rise, says FLD, citing common examples such as wrong order or predominance of label content, failure to sublist ingredients properly, and illegibility.
